The Institute for Research, Innovation and Desalination Technology, the research arm of Saltwater Conversion, has culminated its research and scientific work on the treatment of water with semiconductor materials and improved deionization processes for water reuse with the publication of two research papers in the journal Saltwater Conversion. The first issue discussed in the International Journal of Membranes (Membrane) is the treatment of water with semiconductor materials containing tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) using nanofiltration, reverse osmosis and membrane deionization, focusing on the comparison of different technologies for the removal of these materials (TMAH). The study showed that membrane deionization (MCDI) reverse osmosis (RO) can effectively remove such substances, while nanofiltration (NF) has been shown to be unsuitable for such applications. It also revealed the high ability of membrane deionization (MCDI) technology to separate and remove these substances even under highly alkaline conditions, which confirms its ability to treat water containing unwanted substances.
In the same context, another scientific paper studies methods to improve and evaluate the process of removing ions for water reuse in plants with dual production to generate energy and water by improving the use of concentrating deionization technology (CDI) for water treatment and reuse. The study concluded that appropriate operating conditions for the removal of dissolved solids and their reduction over time due to scaling and deposition of organic matter help to eliminate these ions using chemical cleaning processes.
