JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Serbian President Aleksandar Vujicic expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in defense and other areas.
Prabowo visited Belgrade, Serbia on Monday local time after visiting France last week.
“We are committed to improving relations and cooperation between Indonesia and Serbia in defense, economy and other areas of mutual interest,” Prabowo’s office said in a statement on Tuesday.
Brigadier General Edwin Adrian Sumanta, director of the Public Relations Bureau of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the two leaders also discussed strategies to expand the scope of cooperation and improve friendly relations.
During the meeting, President Vu I said Vietnam is keen to strengthen political dialogue as well as cooperation in defense, economy and other areas of mutual benefit to both countries.
“I thank Indonesia for its consistent support for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Indonesia’s support is also reflected in the ASEAN forum, where Serbia calls for strengthening political relations and comprehensive cooperation with ASEAN member states,” the President said.

At the Serbian Presidential Palace, Prabovo’s arrival was also welcomed by Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gasi.
During the meeting, Prabowo was accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador to Serbia Chandra Widya Yudha, Serbia’s Chargé d’Affaires in Jakarta, Indonesia Marija Boskovic and Indonesia’s Defense Attaché in Belgrade Colonel Prayogha Erawan.
Meanwhile, the Serbian president was accompanied by Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric, in addition to the Defense Minister.
After visiting Belgrade, Prabowo continued his journey to Ankara, Turkey on Monday local time. He arrived at Ankara Esenboga International Airport at around 17:20 local time and was greeted by Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Güler, Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Ahmet Rizal Purnama and Indonesian Defense Attaché to Ankara, Turkey Colonel Mohammad Amir Ali Akbar.
In Ankara, Prabowo will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey’s defense minister and Turkey’s foreign minister.
