Reports say that members of the parliament, provincial assembly and local government representing Bodujana Peramuna in Sri Lanka’s Ratnapura district have unanimously decided to support the incumbent president, Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe, in the upcoming presidential election.

The decision was taken after the party’s public representatives met at a hotel in Ratapura area today under the chairmanship of the ruling party’s chief organiser, Minister Prasana Ranatunga, the report said.

Reports said that four out of eight MPs from Pohotuwa, which represents Ratnapura district, attended the discussion.

These include MP Chanaka Vakkakumbura, Premaral Jayasekara, Akhil Ellawala and Mudita Priyashanthi.

After this discussion, it is said that seven out of eight Pohottu organisers in Ratnapura district agreed to express support to President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

Meanwhile, State Minister DB Herath, as organiser for Pohottuwe Wariyapola constituency, convened a constituency committee meeting in Wariyapola area today to discuss the upcoming presidential election.

It is learnt that all political activists including former councillors representing the Varyapora local council, the Varyapora Cooperative Society Board, Varyapora sub-divisional convener, religious leaders attended the meeting.

The majority of the people in Sri Lanka’s Bodujana Peramuna Varyapora constituency, which was convened in this way, agreed to support the incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming presidential election to rebuild the country.

It is a curious fact that the Kurunegala Valayapora area governed by Mr. Johnston Fernando, a former minister and member of parliament, has now been taken away from him and joined to Ranil Wickremesinghe’s party.

Congressman Johnston Fernando has yet to make any specific comments regarding his stance in the upcoming presidential election.
