Bishop Anton Teuma of Gozo celebrated Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Tapinou to mark the 20th anniversary of the death of Servant of God Don Mikiel Attard. Who was buried? August 2022 at the same church.

“One of the important characteristics of a man of God – like Don Michail Attard – is the ability to see good where others see only bad. In a person, in an experience, in an event, when everyone sees only the negative, a man of God is able to see the beauty and the positive. We can have no doubt that Don Michail is such a man,” Bishop Tema said in his homily.
The bishop continued, “To whom did Don Mikael not convey the word of God? Politicians? Athletes? Priests? Seminar students? Prisoners? Those in the missions? Those who do not know Jesus? To whom specifically did Don Mikael not convey the love of God and the word of God? Therefore, this priest should be an example for all of us, especially us priests, because he had a close connection with God, he identified with God, he had a heart similar to God; he loved everyone, he did not judge and condemn, but tried to uplift, help and encourage everyone, no matter who he was and what his situation was.”
Bishop Tema said: “I pray tonight that Deng Mikael will give us priests a great heart, a heart that is infinite, a heart that is so great that it loves everyone and worries about everyone. We pray that Deng Mikael will give us priests a heart of God similar to the heart of Jesus!”

Dun Mikiel was born on 1 October 1933 in Nadur, Gozo, the eldest of 12 siblings. He was the son of Coronato and Anna neè Tabone. His father, who worked as a contractor and builder in Malta, moved with his family to Hamrun, where Dun Mikiel spent the first 6 or 7 years of his life.
In 1940, after the outbreak of World War II, Coronato decided to return to Nadur with his family.
He was ordained a priest in the Gozo Cathedral on 12 April 1959. Dun Mikiel had great devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Tapinou and dedicated his entire priesthood to her.
Solemn Mass celebrated by Bishop Mario Grech of Gozo at the Ta’ Pinu sanctuary on 1 August 2012. After the presentation ceremony, the Chancellor of the Episcopal Curia, Salv Debrincat, read out the decree announcing to the Catholic community that the diocesan process for the beatification of the Servant of God Dun Mikiel Attard has officially begun.
