Dr. Mounir Hamdi, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at HBKU, highlighted the Faculty’s interest in scientific research, as professors and students work on a number of disciplines, including cybersecurity, artificial BroadCast Unitedligence, sustainable energy, sustainable environment, quantum computing, and more. Dr. Mounir Hamdi revealed in an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya that we are working on some new projects in the coming years, stressing that the labor market has a high demand for mechanical, chemical and electrical engineering majors, and that students who have graduated in these majors are playing a role in Qatari companies, and the Faculty of Science and Engineering hopes that graduates will be able to acquire more capabilities in these disciplines.
He noted that Hamad bin Khalifa University and Qatar Foundation as a whole are keen to monitor the quality of programmes and a team is working hard to assess graduates and projects to ensure the quality of outputs.
He pointed out that graduates of Hamad bin Khalifa University, especially those from appropriate courses, are well qualified to handle the variables of AI, given its importance within the Faculty of Science and Engineering and at the university level as a whole, as well as at the Qatar Foundation level.
He stressed that Hamad bin Khalifa University is eager to make the new programs added by Texas A&M University a success and revealed the university’s plans to offer future programs, which are currently being studied. He explained that future projects are selected based on the requirements of the workforce market and discussions are held with leading scientists around the world to determine the importance of these programs.
Dr. Mounir Hamdi noted that this year about 100 students graduated from PhD, Masters and Bachelor courses in 13 programs and he expressed his pride in this achievement and the accomplishments of the college’s graduates.
He noted that beginning next school year, Texas A&M courses will be offered in the College of Science and Engineering, including one in electrical engineering, another in mechanical engineering and a third in chemical engineering.
Dr. Recep Chanturk, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, confirmed that the faculty offers various specializations such as Islam, International Relations, Applied Ethics, Islamic Finance, Islamic Economics, Law and Society, Islamic Architecture, Islamic Art, Urban Planning and Counselling Psychology at the Masters level.
Dr. Chanturk said in an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya: We have two doctoral programs, the first one is in Islamic finance and economics, and the second one is in Islamic studies. We also have some diploma programs such as Islamic studies, Islamic finance and Islamic psychology.
He revealed the work of launching the “University Arabic” program or Academic Arabic to teach Arabic in a strong way to researchers, especially university students at Masters and PhD levels, as well as the future Master’s program in Comparative Education.
He pointed out that one third of the students at the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Hamad bin Khalifa University are Qataris, one third are Qatari residents and the last third are international students from outside Qatar who come from several countries around the world, with the number of students ranging between 170 and 200.
He stressed that Islam is studied and taught from the perspective that it is a religion and a civilization, religion is given to us by Almighty God in the Quran and expounded in the Sunnah of the Prophet, while civilization is based on what is prescribed in the Quran. Based on the Islamic values contained in the Quran and Sunnah, such as architecture, international relations, Islamic finance and other matters, he pointed out that the teaching concept of the college is based on the Islamic perspective and the modern Western comparative approach to psychology, education and other changing problem areas.
He pointed out that funding is an ever-changing issue and the college always keeps an eye on developments in the field, incorporating everything new into its curriculum so that students can be trained with the latest information in various fields with an applied perspective in all the courses of the college.
Regarding the compatibility of the Academy’s curricula with the needs of the Qatari labor market, Dr. Chanturk said: “Before we start any project, we study whether the labor market needs graduates in that field, for example, graduates from our Islamic Finance Academy can also directly find jobs in Islamic and non-Islamic banks. Graduates of Islamic Studies have joined the jobs of the Ministry of Endowments. Graduates of the Islamic and International Relations program have joined the jobs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and I see a lot of job opportunities for our graduates and follow-up jobs after they graduate from the Academy.”
