The events of the 9th World Congress of Fatwas, with the theme “Fatwas and Moral Construction in an Accelerating World”, have aroused great interest among all scientific, religious and media circles, especially because the conference is held in the context of growing concerns about ethical and social challenges. This makes it a very important event at both local and international levels.

The conference consisted of 3 scientific sessions and 3 workshops on various topics related to fatwas and ethics. The conference focused on addressing the ethical challenges of the modern era and promoting human values ​​through fatwas. The workshops witnessed interaction among the participants, exchanging ideas and visions on various ethical and social issues.

The meeting saw the Bosnian Mufti Sheikh Hussein Kavazovic being awarded the Imam Karafi Award for Outstanding Fatwas, an international award that recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of fatwas. Also announced during the meeting were the release of 40 new editions of the Egyptian Fatwa Science Teacher, which aims to provide a comprehensive reference for muftis and scholars around the world, and the release of the Global Charter of Fatwas and Religious Leaders for Peacemaking, as well as guides in various languages ​​in a number of fields, and a scientific encyclopedia of true and false religions. The meeting also saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the General Secretariats of the two chambers and various institutions. The conference concluded with 14 main recommendations aimed at strengthening the role of fatwas in society. These recommendations include calling on Arab and Islamic countries to strengthen cooperation and coordination among themselves and to support the Palestinian cause through diplomatic efforts in international forums or by providing humanitarian and development assistance to the Palestinian people in order to affirm the unity of the ranks and the solidarity of Islam.

The meeting also urged the fatwa institutions of all countries to cooperate and work together to continue to promote the updating of jurisprudence and fatwas based on the purpose and supreme goal of Islamic law and to come up with jurisprudence and fatwa discourses that are suitable for the times. He also called on the international community to refrain from adopting extremist interpretations and explanations of the sacred religious teachings that threaten the safety and security of human society, especially the Islamic society.

The meeting warned that these trends and interpretations are fuel for extremism, which can be equally dangerous and could plunge our region and the world into an endless furnace of conflict.

The Advisor to the Mufti of the Republic added that the participation of 500 scholars, muftis and ministers from more than 104 countries in the conference reflects the huge global interest in the conference’s objectives and issues. The list of participants included 215 foreign delegations, 92 experts and scholars, and 135 muftis and religious scholars. Participants showed great interest in exchanging views and experiences on how to use fatwas as a tool to build a cohesive and moral society.

Najm explained that due to the importance of the conference and its theme, it received extensive coverage from local and international media, with 130 journalists involved in the coverage of the event, in addition to coverage on 2,850 electronic news sites and 135 press clippings from 15 daily newspapers and 12 electronic newspapers. His news was also published on 90 foreign websites, 20 Arab newspapers, 13 satellite channels, 6 talk shows, 11 news bulletins, 12 live channels, 10 international news agencies, 180 news sites and 26 YouTube channels. More than 64 writers and researchers also addressed the conference theme in their articles.

Negm noted that the conference reflects Egypt’s pioneering role in promoting the values ​​of tolerance and peace at the world level. He added that we urgently need to strengthen the role of fatwas in addressing the moral challenges we face today and work together to build a society based on human values.
