Last week on Friday the 26th, Ugandan business and investment consultant, serial entrepreneur and author Nicholas Katushabe, popularly known as M’ster Quest and owner of Ugandan consultancy NBK Premier Solutions, won the East African Founder of the Year (Age 30+) award at the prestigious FOYA awards ceremony held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The FOYA awards were held in 2016 at Westland’s Simba Corp Aspire Centre in Nairobi with the sole purpose of recognising and appreciating young founders who have contributed to the development of the African continent, created sustainable jobs through entrepreneurship and inspired others to start their own businesses.
Katushabe, who competed against 14 candidates in the same category from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, said improving the quality of his firm’s consultancy work, which focuses on various small and medium enterprises, played a big role in his winning the award.

Katushabe said: “The selection process started in January this year and was very cumbersome, relying not only on 60% of the public votes but also satisfying the judges, whose votes account for 40%.”
To be nominated for the Founder of the Year Award, their company must meet the key requirements of excellence, innovation and impact on the region. Katushabe said, “Over the years, we have been working with clients and partners in Kenya. We have helped many businesses and impacted many people, changing the mindset of investment decisions. I believe we are the winners in the ultimate category of the FOYA Awards.”

Each FOYA Award winner is then added to a network of founders across Africa, and according to Katushabe, it’s a great opportunity to network and spread their wings across borders.
“I am very happy to receive this award because for me, it reminds me that no matter what we do, the world is listening and paying attention. This award is also a driving force for us to do more work to impact the world,” Katushabe said when she received the award in Nairobi
In the same category, Trizah Kainika of Kenya came in third place while Catherine Kabarangira of Uganda came in second place behind Katushabe.
