Georgian judoka Sofio Amenishvili defeated German opponent with ippon

Georgian judoka (over 78 kg) Sofio Amenishvili advanced to the round of 16 at the 2024 Paris Olympics after defeating German opponent Rene Lucht with an ippon.

Armenishvili will face Frenchman Roman Dicko in the second round.

Let us remind you that Georgia currently has three medals. Judoka Lasha Bekauri is a two-time Olympic champion. He defeated Japan’s Sanshiro Murao in the final and brought the first gold medal for the Georgian national team. Three-time world champion Tato Grigalashvili won a silver medal for the Georgian national team at the Paris Olympics. In addition, Georgian judoka (9100 kg category) Ilya Suramandidze won a silver medal.

It is understood that 28 athletes from Georgia will participate in 10 events (trampoline jumping, Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, boxing, track and field, shot put, fencing, swimming, weightlifting, and judo) at the 33rd Summer Olympics.
