Young diplomats face unprecedented opportunities and new challenges: President Murmu
New Delhi: The Indian Foreign Service Trainees (Batch 2022) called on the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Addressing the trainees, the President said there has never been a better time for Indian diplomats. India’s role and influence on the international stage is rapidly expanding – both as a driver of global growth and a powerful voice in global governance. Today, the international community is looking to India to provide solutions to complex global challenges: be it sustainable growth, climate change, cybersecurity, responding to disasters or fighting extremism and terrorism. This presents unprecedented opportunities and new challenges for young diplomats like them, she said.

The President said that as young officers prepare to assume their duties, they should keep in mind that the ultimate purpose of all their efforts and activities abroad should be to promote growth and development in their home country. She said they must work hand in hand with other public servants to achieve the larger goal of a more prosperous India. She also said they must carefully nurture and promote the important role played by the 33 million Indian diaspora around the world. She stressed that consular services and community outreach must be done in a sensitive and humane manner. She urged officers to meet members of the Indian community regularly and look after their welfare.
