The National Resistance Movement party Eastern Regional Chairman, Captain Mike Mukula, has announced a Sh10 million reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the capture of the driver who hit and killed former Moloto Municipal Councillor Simon Peter Alepo.
Alepo, 50, who died in a road accident along the Tirinyi-Iganga expressway, was buried earlier this week at his ancestral house in Loputuke Chamber A, Kangole town council, Napak County. According to a post-mortem report from Mulago Hospital, Alepo died of severe bleeding, a fractured skull, broken ribs and a ruptured liver.
According to a police report submitted to mourners by Moloto Hills District Police Chief Ahmed Badiri, the vehicle, which is still at large, lost control and crashed into a Toyota V8 car with registration number UAP787Q driven by Alepel.
However, since the incident, Karamoja leaders have been concerned as to why it took the police so long to identify the vehicle and the driver, given that there are security cameras along the highway.
Speaking at Alepo’s funeral on Tuesday, Mukula said he had offered a reward and called on the public to cooperate in providing clues that could lead to the arrest of the driver.
He also said they have set up a team to help locate the driver.
The Napak District LCV Chairman, John Paul Kodet, said all efforts should be made to conduct a forensic investigation to ensure justice for the people of Karamoja.
Peterken Lochap, the Pokora East MP in Napak District, said the driver who hit Alaipel should be punished and penalised for his reckless act. He said as leaders they were committed to follow up the matter till the end.
Alepo was buried in his ancestral house in chamber A of Loptuk in Kangole town council of Napak district.
