German Ambassador to South Sudan Christian Sedat met on Friday with South Sudan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Semaya Kumba to discuss bilateral relations and the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
“We had fruitful discussions, including on the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement and the current Toumani Initiative,” Ambassador Sedat said in a statement. “Germany encourages and welcomes the efforts of the parties to reach an inclusive consensus on the issues of the Peace Agreement and on the outstanding electoral issues.”
Ambassador Sedat reiterated the call made by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during her visit to Juba in January this year: “It is crucial to reach a consensus among political leaders.”
The German diplomat reiterated Germany’s ongoing commitment to the people of South Sudan and stressed its position as the second largest bilateral donor.
“Germany remains our steadfast partner,” Ambassador Sedat said. “Just last week, we handed over New water supply system in Torit financed by Germany Approximately $2 million will provide clean drinking water to more than 40,000 people.”
Meanwhile, the deputy minister on Monday described Germany as a country with a strategic vision and expressed a strong desire to continue developing the highest level of cooperation between the two countries in all areas.
He appreciated Germany’s valuable role in providing humanitarian assistance to people in need and urged Germany to continue providing the necessary support to the country.
Peace has officially returned to South Sudan since a 2018 agreement ended a five-year conflict that killed hundreds of thousands of people.
