Around 150 bars and restaurants across the country have added sunscreen to their menus, sponsored by insurance company Zilveren Kruis.
SPF 30 sunscreen was created specifically for bars and restaurants as a reminder for people to protect themselves from the sun’s harmful rays.
“It’s worrying that people often forget to bring sunscreen when they go out,” Den Bosch bar owner Peter Fogg told local broadcaster. Brabant BroadcastingHe said the event was a success because the pipe was emptied quickly.
Dermatologists say wearing sunscreen is important to prevent skin cancer, with studies showing around 28 per cent of skin cancers are caused by people getting sunburned on cafe terraces or in gardens.
Bars and restaurants can offer sunscreen at a reduced price but are not allowed to make a profit from it. Shop owners can also choose to provide it for free.
