Kanda Yoshi ProjectA government workshop was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, with members of the government and a delegation from the World Bank, focusing on the Kandaji Regeneration Plan Ecosystem and Development of the Niger Valley.

The aim of the workshop was to present the progress of the program and discuss solutions to accelerate its implementation. The Kandaji Program aims to reduce poverty, rebuild the natural environment, improve food security and meet energy needs.

Mr. Amadou Harouna, Director General of the Agency for the Construction of the Kandadji Dam (ABK), stressed the importance of the project for Niger and mentioned that the transmission line should be completed by 2025 and the power plant by 2027. The main challenge remains the resettlement of the affected population, which is expected to be completed by 2028.

The Nigerien authorities have shown a strong commitment to the project, as reflected in their desire to implement the current discussions to optimize the Kandaji Plan, a core element of Niger’s sustainable development, which will receive nearly US$5 billion in funding by the end of the year.

The workshop strengthened collaboration between the Government of Niger and the World Bank, laying the foundation for structured and inclusive development, which is critical to Niger’s future.
