JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Monday, July 29, 2024, became one of the historic days in Indonesia’s 78 years of independence.
On that day, Indonesia’s seventh president Joko Widodo (Jokowi) took office for the first time in the capital of Nusa Tenggara, East Kalimantan.
Although Jakarta remains the center of government for now, the President believes that having an office in Nusantara will inject new energy and enthusiasm into the country, as well as bring new ways of thinking.
On his Instagram account @jokowiThe President affirmed that this is the first step towards bringing new hope and opportunities for a better future for Indonesia.
He admitted that he did not sleep well the night before taking office.
“I slept here last night. I didn’t sleep well. I’m being honest,” he said with a laugh.
Jokowi said it was his first time staying at the Indonesian National Navy Presidential Palace, so he did not sleep well.
Earlier, he had stayed overnight at the minister’s landed residence and luxury camping area during working meetings of the IKN.
Despite being unable to sleep peacefully, the President seemed keen to show the media team some of the rooms in the Presidential Palace or the so-called Garuda Palace.
Observation Deck
One of the facilities of Garuda Palace he showed was an observation deck under construction, from which all corners of the city can be seen.
On the deck, President Jokowi viewed the National Axis located opposite the Garuda Palace, where the red and white flags are flying.
He then turned and gazed upon the splendor of the palace, which contained 4,650 gigantic garuda feather sheaths that formed the outer layer of the building’s façade.
In response to further details about the observatory, the president did not hesitate to admit that he was not yet fully familiar with the building’s locations and rooms.
“I haven’t remembered which floor this is. I just spent the night here,” he said.
Accompanied by State Secretariat Secretary Pratikno, Jokowi sat in the center of the deck with the National Axis as the backdrop.
From the deck, one can see the busy construction site within the IKN Nusantara Central Government Core Area (KIPP), filled with heavy equipment.
Jokowi was keen to show the media more rooms inside the palace but did not want to get in the way of workers busy completing the presidential office area.
It was sunny in East Kalimantan that day and the president had to squint because the glare blocked his vision. However, Jokowi said he did not feel hot because the morning sun was good for health.
meeting room
The president came down from the observation deck and showed everyone a room that would be used as a press briefing room.
In the room, dozens of seats were arranged face to face, with rows of red and white flags and a Garuda Airlines logo hanging on the wall.
In addition, the logo of the 79th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia was displayed on two screens installed for demonstration purposes.
The President then sat in one of the seats.
Jokowi looked around and asked the media reporters: “Are you okay?”
In addition to the press room at the Garuda Palace, there is another press room at the Presidential Palace of the Indonesian National News Agency.
The conversation with the president was relaxed, with one reporter even asking where the cafeteria was located and areas that often become doorstep interviews, such as the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
President Joko Widodo laughed at the question and admitted that he was not yet familiar with the room there.
National Axis
President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iliana, along with some celebrities, visited the National Axis before his inauguration at Garuda Palace on Sunday (July 27).
Axis of Nations comes across as a more futuristic city than Jakarta.
The area seems to embody the ideal future city of the IKN Nusantara development.
This green open area, called the Ceremonial Plaza, contains a retail building, library and open-air theatre, which are accessible via wooden bridge paths.
LED lights have been installed under the bridge to add to its beauty at night, and if you enjoy the beauty of this place in the afternoon, you can also watch the sunset from the west.
The President said the national axis is more beautiful at night.
He stressed that the development of IKN Nusantara is a major project that will take 15 to 20 years to complete.
Jokowi also denied claims that the IKN construction project was rushed, saying that in fact, the project was carried out according to procedures.
At least 1,380 guests will attend the Declaration of Independence ceremony at IKN Nusantara on August 17, 2024, which will inspire and motivate all stakeholders, including the public, to believe that the development of Nusatara will be successfully completed and become a popular and liveable city.
