P-au-P., June 3, 2024 (AlterPresse) – Negotiations are underway to form a transitional government, a step that will be taken immediately after the official handover of government to Dr. Gary Cornier on June 3, 2024. AlterPresse observes that the Presidential Transition Council (Cpt) expanded the decree appointing him as Prime Minister.
At a ceremony at the Villa d’accueil (government headquarters), CPT president Edgard Leblanc Fils announced that the bill authorizes Cornier to “start the process of forming a government, with the captain”.
LeBlanc urged Conil to develop policies to address serious issues such as insecurity, economic recovery, reform institutions, and organize general elections by the end of 2025.
Leblanc stressed that the transitional mandate, which will end on February 7, 2026, will therefore be fulfilled.
Gary Cornell believes that not a minute can be wasted. He believes that we must address the major issues facing the country without delay and expressed his awareness of the current urgency, problems and the huge challenges that await it.
He called on all stakeholders to put aside their differences and prioritize the highest interests of the country.
In a video message aired on May 31, Garry Conille pledged to establish a non-partisan government that would encourage the participation of women, young people and the diaspora.
Cornell declared that women, young people and the diaspora are important constituencies in Haiti and must be involved and effectively represented in the new transitional government, which needs competent, pragmatic and honest professionals. (April 6, 2024, 8:00 p.m.)
