OVP verification policy improves governance efficiency

This newly formulated policy sets out a framework for change in the Office of the Vice President aimed at improving operational efficiency and accountability across its various departments.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Samba Mbalo, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President of The Gambia, speaking on behalf of the Vice President of The Gambia, stressed the key role played by the policy in reshaping the way the office carries out its duties.

“This is not just a document, but a testament to our commitment to improving efficiency, accountability and strategic foresight in the Office of the Vice President,” PS Mballow said.

The OVP policy outlines core functions and objectives aimed at strengthening the governance framework, ensuring that administrative processes are effective and transparent. PS Mballow stressed the importance of the policy: “Firstly, the policy outlines the key role of the Vice President in conducting business in the Cabinet and the National Assembly.” He added that the policy requires close coordination with public officials and other ministers to effectively implement the decisions of the Cabinet.

A key aspect of the policy is its emphasis on communication and consultative decision-making, marking a significant advancement in the Gambia’s governance framework. Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Public Service (MoPS), Mr. Pateh Jah, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Service (MoPS), stressed that the policy is consistent with national development goals.

“The new policy from the Vice President’s Office embodies this coordination. It is more than just a set of rules; it is a strategic tool to develop and implement sectoral policies that align with our national priorities,” PS Jah said.

The validation workshop featured interactive sessions, including presentations and breakout sessions, during which participants reviewed the policy and provided valuable feedback. The event was attended by representatives from OVP departments, government agencies, partners and stakeholders.
