An owl and a monkey drive a train for two hours in Tanzania
The SGR train from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma had to stop for two hours due to a power outage that affected the train’s journey.
In a statement, the Tanzania Railway Union apologised to delayed passengers, citing the “overhead catenary system”.
According to Tanzania’s Mwanachi newspaper, TRC said the problem had been resolved at midnight and the train could continue to Dodoma city at 8 pm on July 31, 2024.
Several social media users like X commented on the issue, with some saying it was unclear how a fire started by an animal could have stopped a train from moving, with the general belief being that a train has the capacity to store fire that it would use if the power was out for some time.
Internet celebrity JR said: “And didn’t you tell me that trains have the ability to store electricity and can be used for a certain period of time even if there is a power outage?”
Another, Joel Ntile, said: “Oh it’s amazing, it’s a worrying situation, you can see it will take 100 years to fix the problem and it won’t happen again.”
