George Lucas is a big name in world cinema, responsible for giving the planet access to film franchises like Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark. In an interview decades ago, he made some interesting points.
First, he revealed how the character of Chewbacca was created. As he said, his dog Indiana was responsible for everything.
“Indiana was my dog. Indiana was the basis for the Wookiee and Chewbacca. He was a big sled dog. He would ride next to me in the car. A giant bear dog. So I named the character after my dog. And then, we ended up putting him in the movie,” George Lucas once said.
Indiana Jones is named after the dog Indiana Jones, who was successfully played by Harrison Ford in the film series of the same name. Interestingly, this famous character should be called differently.
“In the original book, his name is Indiana Smith. When I told Steven (Steven Spielberg, the director of the film Primitive) that story, he said, ‘Let’s just leave it that way. There’s just one thing I don’t like. I don’t like the name. I said, ‘Well, how about we call him Indiana Jones?’ He said, ‘All right. That’s good,’ ” Lucas said, according to the report.telegraph“.
