Congratulations to the Planet Money Summer School Class of 2023! Today, you become Masters of Business Administrations…which we spell in lower case for legal purposes. Your diplomas are waiting for you across the stage.

But first, there’s one last skill to teach: the pitch. We wouldn’t be doing our job as a half-baked business school imitator if we didn’t give you the confidence and opportunity to stand in front of investors and ask for money. We understand that what you ambitious business school graduates really want is not just a piece of paper (which, to be clear, is all you’ll get), but the opportunity to start a business and get rich.

So we combined graduation with an idea quiz, a startup showdown, a company competition. We did our own version of a Shark Tank-like pitch competition. We heard from five audience members about their real thoughts on startups.

  • A way for book lovers to get closer to their favorite authors
  • A product that keeps you dry on the go
  • Two completely different concepts of end-of-life care

Will they be able to pitch successfully? What will investors look for in their presentations? Can they prepare a convincing total addressable market analysis? Who will solve the most acute customer pain points? We’ll have to wait and see.

Our business experts will give us the opportunity to understand investors’ thinking and their needs. Only one graduate will be the valedictorian this year.

If you want to earn your diploma right away, test your business prowess by taking the Planet Money Summer School quiz.
