Trimmel talks about ‘dangerous situation’

Since Sunday, 1. FC Union has completed its second training camp in Neuruppin this summer. On Thursday morning, coach Bo Svensson’s team completed the last open training session in the beautiful Volksparkstadion of MSV Neuruppin. After lunch, the 37-year-old defender had time for media interviews. At the Mark Brandenburg team hotel resort on the shores of Lake Rupina, the Austrian said of the training camp: “There is not much free time. The training volume is very high. We are all tired. I think we executed well. The coach gave us good feedback.”

Trimmel is the longest-serving member of the Union team. He has been there since 2014 (333 games). Trimmel has worn the captain’s armband since 2018. His impression of the new coach Bo Svensson is positive. “The entire coaching staff has top character. They show that they want to further develop every player. Their demands are very high. They don’t allow you to make excuses,” Trimmel explains.

Both at the first training camp in Langenfeld and now in Brandenburg, Svensson has put a lot of emphasis on his pressing system in training. “It brings a different kind of pressure to the training, these are short games but with a lot of power,” Trimmel said.

Trimmel asks: “Learn from your mistakes”

Trimmel said the new season also represented a “dangerous situation”, despite the league being given a free hand following last-minute relegation. “The players who are already there for the 2023/24 season have to learn from their mistakes, we have to reunite as a team, consolidate our defensive strength and become a force at home again,” said the tattoo enthusiast, who has officially registered as a mobile tattoo artist.

He is looking for a tattoo studio in Berlin. But he wants to play football at a high level for as long as possible. Trimmel now needs more time to recover than before. However, when it comes to general fitness and speed, he feels that he has lost little.

The next opportunity to demonstrate this will be on Saturday (5 p.m.), after which Köpenick will welcome Olympique Lyonnais in a friendly at the An der Alten Försterei Stadium.
