Chinese athlete Yang Jiayu performed well in the women’s 20km race walk and won the championship Paris Olympic champion Thursday.
The 28-year-old world record holder finished in 1 hour 25 minutes 14 seconds, ahead of Spain’s Maria Perez (1:26:19), with Australia’s Jemima Montag (1:26:25) taking bronze.

Yang Mi has participated in seven Olympic Games and is the fourth Chinese woman to win an Olympic championship.
The game was delayed for half an hour due to thunderstorms, but once the game started, Yang took advantage of the soaring temperature and controlled the game.
The 20-lap race took place along the banks of the Seine through Paris, passing landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Place de Trocadero, with the 2017 world champion always in the lead.
At 8km, Yang Jiayu was already 13 seconds ahead of her group of 11 runners, including Commonwealth Games champion Montag and defending champion Antonella Palmisano.
With 8km left in the race, she had increased her gap to 40 seconds and her only concern was receiving a warning.
However, after three kilometres, perhaps because of the heat and her early efforts, the lead shrank to half a minute, with Spain’s two-time world champion Perez in hot pursuit.

Perez, who finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, was in great form and cut Yang’s lead to another 10 seconds with one kilometer to go.
The Chinese woman tied a towel around her neck to absorb the sweat and managed to stabilize the situation and maintain a 20-second lead after the next lap.
Montag broke away from the three-man group at 17 kilometers and moved up to third place.
With two laps to go, Young’s lead was just 15 seconds over Perez, with Montag 11 seconds behind.
Both people in the front row took off their hats and poured water on their heads, and drank from bottles at the water station – the towel around Ms. Yang’s neck was taken off.
When the bell rang, Young’s lead stood at 17 seconds, while Montag threatened to take silver from Perez, finishing just five seconds behind the Spaniard.
In the end, Yang crossed the finish line with ease, while Perez threw away his hat and held on, while last year’s world silver medalist Montag finished an impressive third.
