The DHS indicator aimed at showing the obesity situation among children in 2020 shows that the rate in the Brera district is 41.6%.

This has put pressure on agencies concerned with preventing malnutrition, and various initiatives have been launched to address the problem, including the USAID Aurora Vihaz Project, which has been working in the region for more than four years and focuses on educating the public on how to take care of modern livestock farming, helping them increase the amount of their products so that they can become a staple in daily meals, especially for children and women in their childbirth period.

The project has been running for over four years in the Brela district and volunteers and community members have received livestock training.

Mukavira Margaret, a USAID staff member in Aurora Vihaz, said they have been using it in different ways, including in the village kitchen.

“When parents get involved in the village kitchen, they not only cook and distribute wholesome meals because they also learn how to prepare meals or how to share with others,” he said. When one learns from one another, he returns home and repeats, he develops the habit, like cooking, which helps him get out of the malnutrition situation.
