Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze reiterated that Georgia-US relations need to be reset and Georgia is ready. Journalists asked him about the renewed critical messages from US partners, including statements made at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting.

“As for Georgia-U.S. relations, we are on standby. We are fully prepared for a reset of relations. You know, there have been a lot of problems in these relations over the past three or four years, so there have been some problems in the relations. A reset is needed… If you see the content of this act, it is not a “friendly act”, but should be called an “unfriendly act” because this act contains elements of “extortion” and has extortion as its main goal. This act itself cannot help rebuild relations,” Kobakhidze said.

The Prime Minister once again blamed former US ambassador Kelly Degnan, saying he had damaged large parts of the relationship between the two countries.

“As for sanctions, speaking in such a tone is counterproductive and cannot be considered a confrontational step in any way. We should not engage in blackmail, threats, but a healthy dialogue on restoring relations,” he said.

As for whether the team expected him to be sanctioned, he replied that the topic was uninteresting.
