Hungary welcomes Italian Prime Minister’s visit to China. Szijjártó said China is an important partner

Hungary welcomes Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meroni’s arrival in Beijing on Tuesday for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said on Facebook on Wednesday. TASR’s correspondent in Budapest reported the event.

Szijjártó said Melloni’s statement that China is an inevitable and important dialogue partner in an increasingly uncertain international environment is particularly reassuring.

“We sincerely hope that neither the EU nor any EU member state leader will attack the Italian prime minister for her visit to Beijing,” the Hungarian foreign policy chief added.

Szijjártó said he was pleased that the prime ministers of European countries that are members of the G7 were sitting at the negotiating table with the Chinese president. Szijjártó stressed that in the current “extremely active” international situation, only diplomatic channels and dialogue can solve problems.

Melonovich arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for her first visit to China in nearly two years since taking office. She highlighted China as a key partner in tackling global tensions during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday.
