A man who was on bail on a murder charge was shot dead in Linstead on Tuesday after challenging officers with an illegal firearm, according to police.
The deceased was identified as D’Angelo Creighton, aka “Hot Head”, 33, from the Wakefield area of Linstead, St Catherine.
Officers from Linstead Police Station were on patrol in Wakefield at around 12.50pm when the team received information and went to a house in the area where Clayton lived.
Police said he was seen holding a handgun and pointing it at the advancing line of officers.
The team reportedly took evasive action and fired shots in the direction of Creighton.
After the gunfire subsided, Clayton was found with a gunshot wound and reportedly still clutching the weapon.
Police said the murder weapon was a Taurus revolver loaded with four live rounds and two shell casings.
Clayton was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An independent investigation committee has launched an investigation into the matter.
