Angry youths on Sunday lynched a man suspected of stabbing to death Victor Lomor, a 27-year-old medical worker, in Ngoro, Budi County, Eastern Equatoria State.
The lynched man was allegedly drunk at the time and threatened a number of women before medical staff intervened, only to be stabbed to death.
According to local officials, this act angered local youths who attacked the suspect with crude weapons, killing him on the spot and then cut the body into pieces.
Augustine Lokang, an administrator at Budi Regency Hospital, told Radio Tamazuj that the incident occurred on Sunday morning but was not reported until the next day due to the lack of communication networks in the area.
He said the stabbed medic tried to run away but collapsed.
“The incident happened in Ngaro on Sunday morning. Our colleague was stabbed to death by a 17-year-old villager while on his way to the health centre,” he explained.
Budi County Chief Lino Atiol confirmed the incident and expressed shock, saying it left a big gap in health services in the community.
Atiol said warnings have been issued several times against people walking around with dangerous weapons.
In another incident, a man was found dead and several others were injured, which authorities attributed to excessive drinking.
Kokor Michael, a member of the Eastern Equatoria State Parliament and a representative of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition, condemned the incident and called on the local community not to drink excessively.
He urged the government and local leaders to enact regulations to restrict excessive consumption of moonshine by locals.
