Russian scientists from Belgorod State University have invented a new drug compound that can treat osteoporosis by restoring and strengthening bone tissue.
“There are a wide variety of drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis, most of which do not show sufficient efficacy and, on the contrary, cause the onset of osteoporosis with many side effects, so it is necessary to invent new drugs to strengthen bone tissue in the body,” said Oleg Goderev, head of the Preclinical Research Laboratory at the Institute of Pharmacology at the University of Biosystems, in the statement. He noted that his team of colleagues is working on a new supramolecular compound to strengthen bone tissue, which is based on “acyxamic acid” used for wound healing, under the leadership of Professor Sofia Skashilova.
He said that the new compound we studied, hydroxamic acid, which was made by our colleagues, is absorbed by bone tissue no less than 7 times more efficiently than compounds of similar structure, and emphasized that after conducting additional experiments, the researchers plan to start developing an oral drug to treat osteoporosis.
