Palestinian factions declare general strike

On Wednesday, the “national and Islamic forces in the Palestinian territories” announced a general strike and march to protest the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas’s Tehran politburo.

In a statement mourning Haniyeh, the forces said that “the assassination of the great national leader Ismail Haniyeh was carried out within the framework of the Zionist state’s terrorism and war of extermination, destruction and murder,” adding that “this cowardly assassination will not break the will of our people to resist and stand firm; on the contrary, it will strengthen our resolve to uphold our rights, our principles, and our struggle and resistance for freedom and independence.”
