Employees of the Taraz Police Department reportedly detained a Russian who had deceived three Kazakhs over the Internet caravan.kz.
From April to May, Citizen R. and his accomplices gained the trust of citizens by calling them from various numbers, claiming to be “secondary bank security guards” and “law enforcement officers,” talking about scammers who wanted to apply for bank cards and take out loans on their behalf.
Fraudsters used WhatsApp video calls to obtain loans and take possession of 19 million tenge victims.
On April 25, a pre-trial investigation into the facts was opened in accordance with Article 190, paragraph 4, clause 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The suspect was detained at the state border checkpoint towards Kyrgyzstan.
