Lawyers for the plaintiffs are asking for £1 billion as interim compensation and authorities are due to meet on July 30 to hear the case.
Lawyer Dr. Hussein Abdullah Al-Mutani, who vacated the original verdict, submitted an urgent report to the prosecutor in solidarity with 53 other lawyers from the Luxor governorate (southern Egypt), headed by Al-Dawshi Shukr, president of the Luxor Bar Association, who filed report No. 807350 against Amr Abdel Basset Abdel Aziz Diab (known as Amr Diab in the media).
The report was released against the backdrop of the spread of a video of a famous Egyptian singer slapping a resident of Luxor Governorate at a wedding in a Cairo hotel, an incident that attracted the attention of Egyptian public opinion and social media pages.
The investigative authorities summoned Mohammed Saad Osama, the young man who was slapped by artist Amr Diab at the wedding of producer Mohammed Saadi’s daughter, to take his statement to reveal the details of the incident.
After the slapping incident, artist Amr Diab reported the young man, Mohammed Saad Osama, to the New Cairo First Department, sparking widespread controversy.
Artist Amr Diab topped the social networking site after he slapped a fan while attending the wedding of producer Mohamed Al-Saadi’s daughter.
The investigating authorities heard from the lawyer of artist Amr Diab, who reported to the police station a young man who slapped him when he tried to take a selfie with him at a wedding.
The artist’s lawyer, Amr Diab, said in the report that the artist was victimized by the young man, who grabbed him from behind and forcefully put the phone to his face, forcing him to take inappropriate photos.
Amr Diab’s lawyer added in the complaint that the artist welcomes any fan and does not refuse anyone who wants to take a photo with him, noting that the young man was not invited to the wedding and tried to do so with all artists.
Amr Diab’s lawyer explained that the young man also grabbed the hand of artist Mohammed Ramadan in the same way and continued: The serious intrusion of some people in order to take pictures and publish them on social media has reached the level of difficulty, and stressed that contact with celebrities is principled.
He confirmed that the young man tried to grab the artist in a strange way and did not understand it as taking a photo or admiring the way the suit was improperly tightened.
He explained that the artist did not know the youth and that he had previously asked to take photos four times and that nothing had stopped him from taking them, but to his surprise he attracted him in such a strange way that the young man tried to attack him, which led him to do such a behavior in front of everyone, and after learning his name and knowing that he was a fan, he tried to communicate with him and reconcile his behavior, but was rejected by the young man.
