Netflix quarterly results beat expectations, ad-supported memberships up 34%

Follow-up: Khansaa Al-Zubair Netflix reported second-quarter results on Thursday that put it ahead of the live-streaming competition as it added more global subscribers and saw strong growth in its advertising business. “Ad-supported memberships increased 34% during the period compared to the same period last year,” the company said. Revenue was $9.56 billion for the second quarter ended June 30, compared with $9.53 billion expected by analysts at London Stock Exchange Group. Earnings per share were $4.88, compared with $4.74 expected by analysts. Total global paid memberships reached 277.65 million, up from 274.4 million in the same period last year.
