The number of people submitting first asylum applications in the Netherlands has fallen again. In the second quarter of the year, 7,700 asylum seekers did so, 14% less than in the first three months of the year. This continues the decline in the number of first asylum applications that began at the beginning of 2024.

The number of so-called follow-up travelers – family members of recognized asylum seekers who later come to the Netherlands, usually partners and children – also fell in the second quarter.
