The Minister of Agriculture, Vernet Joseph, appointed agricultural engineer Elancié Moïse as the new Director-General of the Ministry in a brief ceremony on Monday, July 29, 2024. He succeeds Dr. Branly Eugène, who held the position for more than seven years.
After the customary thanks, Elancié Moïse said the country had made an unjustified choice in agriculture. Moïse is an experienced director of the Ministry of Agriculture, where he has held important positions for the past 20 years. “As a result of this choice, the country is not able to produce enough to meet the needs of the population. Today, we will rethink agriculture. We must move away from traditional agriculture and embrace modern agriculture. We need a solid agriculture where resources will be effectively valued so that the goods and services produced are sufficient to meet the daily needs of the actors in the agricultural system.”
In terms of announced projects, the new Director-General promised to contribute to the Ministry of Water Resources, focusing on areas with irrigation systems, saying that “without watershed protection measures, water resources cannot be developed”, and stressed that the agricultural campaign will specifically target areas with water irrigated fields.
Minister Vernet Joseph described the new Director-General as a principled, rigorous and uncompromising person. He encouraged the latter to redouble his efforts to meet the upcoming challenges…
