Egyptian authorities received reports that a “tourist boat” with 14 Egyptian and Gulf passengers on board had sunk in the waters of the Nile River between Cairo’s Qasr El Nil and Old Cairo areas.

A boat sank in Egypt’s Nile River on Tuesday with 14 Egyptian and Gulf passengers on board.

Egyptian authorities received reports that a “tourist boat” with 14 Egyptian and Gulf passengers on board had sunk in the waters of the Nile River between Cairo’s Qasr El Nil and Old Cairo areas.

It turned out that an Egyptian family was hosting Gulf relatives and went out for a walk in the Nile River. They boarded a tourist boat, but it sank into the water, resulting in the suffocation of four Gulf nationals and five Egyptians.

Ambulances rushed the injured to Al-Qasr Al-Aini Hospital, while authorities continued to search for three missing people and revealed that two Egyptians had died.

Investigations revealed that the vessel’s license had expired and had not been renewed, and its passenger capacity was expected to be no more than four people.

Necessary reports on the incident have been prepared and the prosecution has been informed to investigate.

Minister of Social Solidarity Dr. Maya Morsi is following up on the boat sinking in the Nile River in Cairo’s Qasr al-Nil area.

The Minister of Social Solidarity instructed the Director of the Social Solidarity Directorate of Cairo Governorate, the Directorate’s Relief Committee and the Egyptian Red Crescent Society to rush to the scene of the accident, provide the necessary interventions, determine the impact of the accident, take the necessary measures after the accident, and quickly complete the necessary social studies to quickly support the families of the deceased and pay the necessary compensation.
