He said the ConVzla command was a “violent operations command that seeks to foment civil war in Venezuela.”
The United States is considering new sanctions on Venezuela following its disputed presidential election results, which could be unveiled if President Nicolas Maduro fails to meet Washington’s demands for greater transparency in the vote count, people familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.
Options could include individual sanctions or U.S. travel bans on Venezuelan officials, including those associated with the election. Those measures could then escalate to other types of sanctions if deemed necessary, the sources said. Reuters.

The head of Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) declared long-ruling socialist Nicolas Maduro the winner, although opposition candidate Edmundo González also claimed victory.
The timeline for the next U.S. move remains uncertain. The White House declined to comment. The U.S. State and Treasury Departments did not immediately respond to Reuters questions on the matter.
Some members of Venezuela’s CNE board were sanctioned by Washington while in their positions. Washington also reimposed sanctions on the energy industry in April after having been significantly eased in October, leaving Washington with few options to hit the OPEC nation’s key economic sector.
At a news conference on Monday, senior U.S. officials said the election-rigging stripped Maduro’s claim of victory of “any credibility” and opened the door to new sanctions.
“There are a number of options and considerations that we can take on this situation because we’ll see what decision the national election commission makes in the coming days about releasing the data that’s been mentioned,” a senior U.S. official said. “So I think this is really a critical moment.”
