European Parliament President Roberta Mesora thanked Alen Simonyan and welcomed Armenia’s desire to sever ties with the EU.

“Dear Mr Simonyan, thank you for your letter of congratulations on my election as President of the European Parliament on 16 July 2024. It is my right and responsibility to continue leading this European structure.

The European Parliament accepts and welcomes Armenia’s firm emphasis on its desire to expand and prioritize relations with the EU. The agreed new EU-Armenia partnership agenda and the visa liberalization dialogue started with Armenia are clear evidence of the expansion of our relations.

“I hope that the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, after the upcoming Constituent Assembly and the assumption of office of the newly elected members, will have the opportunity to resume cooperation with the European Parliament delegation on relations with the countries of the South Caucasus. I am sure that this will provide an important platform for further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation,” wrote Roberta Messora, President of the European Parliament, in a letter to the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan.
