Yoruba agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known by his name, Sunday Igboho, on Monday spoke against the nationwide protest planned for August 1 to address the plight of the nation.
Igboho criticised the protest in a statement, saying: “The aim of these unidentified and faceless people is to divide the country.”
He further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the revolutionary policies implemented, warning that the protests could be hijacked by those with ulterior motives.
Igboho acknowledged the constitutional right to peaceful protest but stressed that “calls for unconstitutional regime change are unacceptable.” He noted that under Buhari’s presidency, protests were focused on protecting communities rather than destabilizing them.

Igboho stressed the global nature of economic hardship and praised the government’s efforts to alleviate it, such as increasing the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000. He described the protests as “politically motivated” and urged the Yoruba people to reject them.
He stressed the need to achieve change through the democratic process and called on everyone to be patient and wait for the 2027 general elections.
He warned against violence: “We will firmly resist any attempt to incite violence. Please stay off the streets during the protests.”
Igboho further called for dialogue, urging the government, protest organisers and supporters to collaborate to address challenges facing the country.
