Islamic associations protest against rising prices and cost of living in Pakistan

Jamiat-ul-Islami (JI) has been expressing its disappointment and dissatisfaction over the rising prices and cost of living. The religious political party is unhappy with the increase in tariffs resulting from the newly announced budget.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, leader of the Islamic Association, said the increase in electricity tariffs and new taxes stipulated in the budget worried them. After the religious political party announced a sit-in protest, the provincial government formed a negotiation committee for the protesters.

However, the protesters refused to accept the leadership’s gesture and continued their protest.JI leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman initially announced the sit-in in Islamabad to protest against rising prices and inflation.

The protest is to call on the government to reduce electricity prices, JI said, adding that the government must also review its agreements with independent power suppliers.

As part of the protests, the regional administration has sealed off the Red Zone in the capital Islamabad, which includes all prominent buildings, government buildings and the Diplomatic Conference Centre.

They blocked roads leading to the red zone with containers, making passage difficult.

The protesters had to enter the city through alternative routes. Aamir Baloch, a spokesperson for the party, has commented on the matter.

He said the protests would continue until the government was ready to accept their demands and drastically reduce electricity prices.

The government has made it clear that they are ready to engage in dialogue with the JI leadership and find a solution. minister Ataullah Tallah said they wanted to ensure the protests no longer affected public life.

Moreover, they also stated that the tripartite negotiating team is ready to discuss the situation and reach an amicable agreement. On the other hand, the JI spokesperson claimed that they will continue their protest and refused to talk to the negotiators.
