Jersey City Development Explosion,there’s a few city center Journal Square has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade, but even by local standards, the amount of construction currently taking place in Journal Square is staggering, with thousands of new homes being built within just a few blocks.
One Magazine Square

The most prominent project in the area may be One Journal Square, which is located next to the neighborhood’s PATH station. Groundbreaking Last year, the long-delayed project officially opened for business, and the 2 million-square-foot project will include 1,723 residential units.

Comprising two 64-storey towers with a connected 12-storey plinth, the building is dominated by a glass structure designed to express a slender verticality through a series of stepped volumes. Construction is currently nearing its apex and is expected to be completed in 2026.

The ground floor of One Journal Square will include 883 parking spaces and 40,000 square feet of retail space, which will be home to Target. The project will also create a new public plaza facing John F. Kennedy Boulevard, transforming a taxi parking lot into a green space with new seating areas.

On the other side of the PATH station, KRE’s third tower Square Journal The final 60-story building will add 598 rental residences and 18,000 square feet of amenities to the existing complex, which began construction about a decade ago.

All told, the renovation will add 1,840 rental residences and 36,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. The third tower will feature a new performance lounge, karaoke room, lobby café and sky lounge that will be accessible to all residents of the complex.
425 Summit Avenue

Just two blocks south, another mixed-use building is nearing completion. Developers Spitzer Enterprises and Arden Group are teaming up to build 425 Summit AvenueIt is a 26-story residential building that will contain 390 rental units and will feature large windows and a cream-colored exterior with brick, cement and stone components.
The ground floor of 425 Summit Avenue will include two storefronts, and construction has begun to take shape on the ground floor and sidewalk areas. The project is expected to open later this year.
Singh Building

Elsewhere at 622 Summit Ave. Singh Building GN Management is bringing a modern, 209-unit apartment development to the neighborhood that will include 1,372 square feet of ground-floor retail and 16,000 square feet of office space.

The project’s exterior balconies will begin on the ninth floor, jutting out and rotating as the building rises. The project will also create a public park at the rear of the building where people can sit and overlook the Bergen Archa proposed park across an abandoned railway line.
Subway Video

Another project from GN Management, Subway Video The 161 Van Wagenan Ave. apartment building was completed earlier this year and is currently in the leasing phase. Designed by Fort Lee-based Architectura, the 141-foot-tall building contains 124 residential units.
The project’s 124 apartments are divided into 25 studios, 91 one-bedrooms, 7 two-bedrooms and 1 three-bedroom. The project has 39 parking spaces and features split-level top floors with exterior walls made of brick, metal panels and concrete masonry.
Roadside tower

Two other high-rise buildings that are further away but will add significant value to the skyline include 499 Summit Avenuebuilt by Panepinto Properties. The 53-story building, called Pathside, will include 605 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units, averaging 710 square feet.
3,200 square feet of retail space will be located on the first floor, alongside a 3,200 square foot public plaza that will be adjacent to the road as part of the development. There is a crane on site at the property and normal vertical movement should begin in the coming months.
Empire Tower

Along John F. Kennedy Boulevard, another project is called Empire Tower Work has been accelerated. The project, which has completed foundation work, is a true mixed-use project, including 252 apartments, hotel rooms, event space, offices and a sky-high restaurant.
The 35-story building will feature a double-height ground floor with retail café space and three separate lobbies, one of which will lead to the 154-room Fairfield Inn by Marriott hotel, while a rooftop restaurant and event space will be open to the public.
626 Newark Avenue

Along the main retail corridor of Journal Square, Namdar Group has quietly begun construction of their latest high-rise building. The company’s newest 27-storey building is located in 626 Newark Avenue Several floors have already been poured, and a total of 576 residential units will be included.
The project will feature 8,231 square feet of first-floor retail space fronting the new Central Avenue extension. The second and third floors of 626 Newark Avenue will include a combined 9,988 square feet of office space, and the project will also require a rooftop amenity space.
In total, the community will add more than 4,400 new residential units in these buildings alone. Loews Theatre and a Pompidou An art museum is also in the works.
