A young man was fined €800 after he verbally abused police officers when he was stopped with a glass bottle in Paceville in the early hours of Monday morning.
An ordinance prohibits people from carrying glass containers on the streets of Paceville.
The incident occurred when patrol officers spotted 23-year-old Angelo Colonese carrying a glass bottle at 3 a.m. on St. George Road.
They walked up to him and took the bottle.
But the young man reacted by using rude and insulting language towards the police officer.
He was brought to court on Tuesday morning with his left arm bandaged and wearing stained white shorts.
With the help of a Legal Aid lawyer, he admitted insulting and threatening the police.
Attorney General Rodrick Attard said the defendant had admitted his mistakes to police and he recommended a punishment that tends to be minimal.
Magistrate Charmaine Galea told the young man he faces a fine of between €800 and €5,000 and a possible suspended prison sentence.
After considering the circumstances of the case and the penalty opinion, the court sentenced him to a fine of 800 euros.
