2024 Olympics: Rhythmic gymnastics, Haiti eliminated
On Sunday, July 28, 2024, Lynnzee Brown participated in the qualifying rounds in the artistic gymnastics events. On the uneven bars, she did not qualify, ranking 74th out of 80 competitors with a score of 11.500 (difficulty 3.700, execution 8.100); on the balance beam, she ranked 70th out of 78 competitors with a score of 11.533 (difficulty 3.900, execution 7.633); and on the floor exercise, she ranked 64th out of 75 competitors with a score of 12.233 (difficulty 4.800, execution 7.433). Let’s recall that for each event, only the 8 best gymnasts per apparatus (maximum 2 per National Olympic Committee) qualify for the apparatus finals.

2024 OG: Judo and Haiti are eliminated
Haitian judoka Philippe Abel Metellus faced Masayuki Terada of Thailand this morning in the men’s elimination round of 1/16 in the Judo-73 kg category on Monday, July 29, 2024. The match took place at the Arena Arena, where the Thai player won 1-0, earning 1 Ippon and 1 Waza-Ari. Metellus was therefore eliminated.

Humanitarianism: World indifference to Haiti
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that despite severe funding constraints, the United Nations is continuing to work with Haitian agencies to provide basic assistance to displaced people. The 2024 International Humanitarian Aid Appeal has been less than 25% funded after more than six months, with only $161 million received so far, while the required funds are $674 million.

Green jobs
Minister of the Environment, Moïse Fils Jean Pierre, held a discussion with the new UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative in Haiti, Pierre Gérard Vauthier. The meeting allowed the Minister to discuss the Government’s main environmental priorities, with a particular emphasis on the urgency of implementing initiatives that can promote social healing through the creation of green jobs. The Minister highlighted some of the key actions that the Ministry will support, including reforestation campaigns, forest inventories, and the implementation of policies and strategies to combat climate change.
