The question “Who exactly are the masked bearers of the Olympic flame?” remains unanswered.
Theories about the man or woman who carried the Olympic flame on Friday night (26/7) caused confusion among those who watched the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games … both in person and on their television receivers. Everyone expected the finale to be revealed, but it did not happen. He passed the torch to Zidane and then … disappeared!
Therefore, the identity of the masked runner remains unknown for now. Audiences were stunned by the way he moved, the character he portrayed, and the fact that he wore a costume from the movie/video game Assassin’s Creed.
He is first seen on a ship holding the Holy Flame, accompanied by music reminiscent of The Phantom of the Opera and a costume similar to the aforementioned film.
This mysterious… figure then jumped from building to building, interrupting reports of Gentile arriving by boat on the Seine. He was later seen heading for the Louvre.
The scenes of the masked man continued throughout the ceremony and, as expected, caused an explosion on social media with theories about his identity!
One user X jokingly speculated: “What would I do if that masked runner wasn’t Celine Dion?”
Another said: “For some weird reason I thought it was Leonardo Dicaprio.”
Somewhat oddly, or some might say appropriately, the official Louis Vuitton account on X posted the following: “A masked runner crosses the rooftops and workshops of the Pont Neuf factory, showcasing the craftsmanship of the artisans who will be at the #LouisVuitton Medals 2024 Paris Olympics.”
The only thing that is certain is that the man behind the mask is not Snoop Dogg. The American rapper’s footage was played before and during the Seine ceremony, and he certainly attracted all the attention.
Another internet user…also included Kylian Mbappe in the report: “France’s most famous footballer, Kylian Mbappe, is not participating in the Olympics due to his participation in the European Championships in Germany. Did he trade in his ninja mask for a more… darker mask at the opening ceremony of the Olympics?” Wondering…
Shortly before the end of the race, masked runners holding flames began running and jumping with an ease and skill reminiscent of gymnasts.
Assassin’s Creed remains a popular choice. Made by French company Ubisoft, the company released an animation of the main character, Arno, on a rooftop overlooking the Louvre.
The “Assassin’s Creed” account on X added fuel to the fire with the post: “Keep your eyes on the rooftops of Paris – Arno may be watching from above,” with an eye emoji.
In a more amusing mood, another user claimed that “The Fire Runner is the unknown character in the Willy Wonka Experience.” This is undoubtedly an enlightening but disappointing move.
Perhaps the identity of the masked man will be revealed at the closing ceremony of the Olympics on August 11.
Or win a gold medal in fencing and surprise us!
