Gambia Economic and Trade Promotion Agency launches Gambia e-Marketplace platform and export promotion video

On July 25, 2024, GIEPA launched the Gambia e-Marketplace platform along with the Gambia Export Video and Tourism Destination Video at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre.

Developed with the support of the Federal Government, these initiatives are an essential part of the National Export Strategy (NES) 2021-2025 and will revolutionize the way Gambian products are promoted and delivered in the global market.

The Gambia e-Marketplace aims to revolutionize trade by providing an online marketplace dedicated to promoting and delivering Gambian-made products worldwide. The digital platform aims to increase the visibility and availability of local products, thereby boosting the country’s export potential.

Minister of Tourism and Culture, Abdu Jobe, highlighted the timely launch of the promotional videos, stressing their potential to boost tourism at the national, regional and global levels.

He stressed that the videos will effectively showcase the rich culture of The Gambia, known as the “Smiling Coast of Africa”.

Jobe praised the tourism promotion video produced by the Gambia Tourism Promotion Board, which covers all the basic elements and information of the Gambia tourism industry. Finally, he thanked the Gambia Tourism Promotion Board and its partners for their efforts.

Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, Baboucar Usmaila Jouf, said the Gambia e-Marketplace platform will revolutionize trade by providing an online marketplace dedicated to promoting and delivering Gambian-made products worldwide. The digital platform aims to increase the visibility and availability of local products, thereby boosting the country’s export potential.

He stressed that the platform can help Gambian businesses enter the global market.

Minister Jove also acknowledged the challenges SMEs face in entering international markets, but stressed the government’s commitment to supporting them. He described the platform as impressive, noting its important role in facilitating trade, driving digital transformation and boosting economic development.

In addition, he stressed the importance of building local market capabilities, that is, providing local markets with the skills and knowledge needed to compete in the global market.

Ousainou Senghore, Executive Director of the Gambia Economic Development Board, said the launch of the platform is aimed at helping Gambian businesses enter international markets, improve economic competitiveness, and promote high-quality investments and exports through digital means. He stressed that this move is expected to boost economic growth.

In addition, GIEPA is working with the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK) to integrate Gambian businesses into the Africa Trade Gateway (ATG) and MANSA platforms.

According to GIEPA, the collaboration aims to promote trade, support the creation of a single market and encourage good governance among businesses and financial institutions across the continent.
