GUATEMALA CITY – Dominican Defense Minister Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa and three other officers of the Dominican Armed Forces are stranded at the Guatemalan capital’s airport after Panama Airlines allegedly oversold the flight that would have allowed them to return to Santo Domingo this Friday.

The source said that Díaz Morfa was willing to go to the Dominican Republic via the Guatemalan “La Aurora” International Airport, which was developed in the city of Ixtapa, after attending a meeting of defense ministers of the Supreme Council of the Central American Conference of Armed Forces.

The flight was to be operated by Panama Airlines from La Aurora Airport in Guatemala, but they were stuck in the airport terminal because the flight back to Santo Domingo was overbooked.

According to the source, when Minister Díaz Morfa and his companions boarded the flight to Guatemala-Santo Domingo with a stopover in Panama at the designated time and place, after the allocation and pre-checking of seats, three officers of the Army were unable to board the plane because their seats were occupied by other passengers.

In view of the unavoidable commitments of the Dominican Minister of Defense this weekend, he was forced to take another flight, accompanied by only one companion, and found himself in the uncomfortable situation of leaving his entourage behind due to the alleged irresponsibility of the airline.

At the moment, compensation for the inconvenience caused has not yet been received, while officials in Guatemala are still waiting for Copa Airlines to find a solution in this regard.
