Fiji’s long tradition of piety and song won the hearts of other athletes in the Olympic Village in Paris.
Australian swimmer Tilly Kearns captured on video the enchanting sounds of Fijian athletes singing the hymn “Mo Ravi vei Jisu” during a prayer, which echoed over the sports village.
The swimmer captioned the video: “Best seat in the house next to the Fijians, never get tired of the different cultures here.”
She showed athletes from other countries walking up to the balcony to listen to our country’s representatives.
While Fijians may consider this a routine practice, it has quickly become a recognisable feature of the Fijian team’s culture wherever they travel to compete.
Fiji 7s rugby coach Ian Gibbons said his biggest takeaway so far has been the family culture of the Fijian team and their daily dedication.
