Church Talk: The Price of Heaven - Jesus' Salvation is Free, But Not Cheap

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is who says to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” Jesus spoke these words to a Samaritan woman in the Samarian city of Sychar. John 4:10. Phil McKay / GoodSalt.com/24072507

All natural things are free, but not cheap – natural things are things that come from nature, and it is difficult to get them, writes Bishop Tutay Pere of the Apostolic Church.

Scripture: Luke 12:48, “For to whom much is given, of him much will be required; and to whom much has been entrusted, of him the more will be asked.”

  1. The partnership between God the Creator and humans the Procreater

The Bible declares in Genesis 1:1, Psalm 24:1; 8:5-8 and Genesis 1:27-28 that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them, the world and everything that dwells in it, and God created them male and female in His own image and likeness and blessed them and told them to be fruitful and to multiply and to fill the earth and to subdue it. God gave them glory and honor and gave them dominion over all creatures of the sea, over the birds of the air, over all creatures of the earth, and over all creatures in the sea. “And God saw everything that He had made, and, behold, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31). Their relationship with God must always be complete and intimate, and man as the chief guardian and steward must always obey and submit to his Creator God. Every time he disobeys, he pays the price and suffers all the consequences. As he said in Galatians 6:7-9, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 He who sows to please his flesh will from the flesh reap destruction, but he who sows to please the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not lose heart in doing well, for in due season we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

  • Only where the Spirit of God exists can freedom and independence reign supreme and prevail.

All natural things would have been completely free to be taken without conditions if humanity had not denied and betrayed trust in God the Creator. Humans were given the privilege of naming all creatures, organisms and species that were subject to human dominion, but the distortion of distrust and disobedience led to greed, avarice and selfish ambition that caused the entire earth to become turbulent and filled with curses, corruption, abuse, sin and death. The sun, wind, rain, ice, snow, oceans, rivers, lakes, water sources, coal, iron ore, wood, gold, diamonds, silver, copper, bronze, oil, gas, steam, minerals, fossil fuels and all forms of the food chain are all gifts from God and nature to serve and sustain life on earth. Likewise, as He reminds us sinful humans in James 1:17, “every good and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning”. In the age of innocence, everything was free, but due to the flagrant disobedience of mankind, now nothing is free, we always have to pay a huge price, by our sweat and hard work to eat. We get up in the morning to work, rest at night to sleep, and vice versa, and work in shifts. It is definitely not cheap to obtain, build, transform and produce all the above natural resources, convert them into energy, food sources, economic income and prosperity.

  • Jesus’ salvation is free, but not cheap

Many Christians say that salvation through Jesus Christ is free, but the Son of God paid the price of his life, from birth to sacrificing himself on the cross of Calvary, to atone for the sin, curse, and death of mankind. Job 1:21 says, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” While we can view our individual lives as a free gift to humanity, our lives from birth to death are just as costly as ever, and from the womb to the grave, countless people played a vital role in nurturing, educating, training, and helping to shape us for a greater, better, and brighter future destiny and legacy. The Apostle Paul wrote in 1English Stone 1 Timothy 6:7 adds, “For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out.” The Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said, “Give a man a fish, and he will feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and he will feed him for a lifetime.” Jesus Christ said to his disciples in Matthew 4:19, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” He sent them to the ends of the earth to teach and spread the gospel of truth, justice, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Mankind has fallen so far that it has lost its identity as a role model for all creatures on earth, and instead, the wisest King Solomon had to use one of the smallest insects as an example of excellence and productivity in Proverbs 6:6-8, “Go and consider the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and take careful note. 7 She has no teacher or overseer or ruler, 8 yet she prepares her food in summer and gathers her food in harvest.” Apostle 3 John 2 provides a divine balance for life, “My beloved, I wish that above all things you may prosper and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” Wealth, health, and spirituality are the balance of our lives.

The Creator God Himself, the Great I, Jesus Christ above all names, concluded, Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Only He can reconcile all of us to the Father.
