From recent promotions to the ongoing Paramedic Program, KUAM News checked in with the Guam Fire Department. According to Acting Fire Chief Joey San Nicolas, morale in the Guam Fire Department is generally very good. “We have been very forthcoming about the challenges we have faced and we have always done our best to lead by example and show our employees that we are still able to perform at a high level with limited resources,” he said. The GFD continues to move forward and has been busy. The second cohort of the Paramedic Program is currently underway. He said approximately 33 people have signed up, which San Nicolas said is an impressive number considering the difficulty and intensity of the course. “They have been in training for a few months now, and I know they have completed their second week of field training and they have another week of field training to follow. They will be finished with training in November, along with all of their travel time and clinical placements,” he said.
