The Nationalist-led Mosta parliament overturned a decision to pedestrianise the region’s main square over the weekend because no consultations with stakeholders were carried out before pedestrianising part of the square, said Nationalist leader Bernard Grech.

Grech first claimed that the previous Labour local council carried out works on the square because former mayor Chris Grech wanted to change the flow of water through Triq il-Kbira in Mosta because it was flowing through “someone’s property”.
He claimed that in order to please “someone”, the former mayor diverted the water flow through the center of Mosta, causing various inconveniences. According to the National Party leader, the road works in Triq il-Kostituzzjoni and the works on the square are intended to solve these inconveniences.
Grech stressed that the pedestrianization of parts of the square was implemented without prior consultation, which also caused serious inconvenience.
“It would be easy to close the square, but the cars have to go somewhere,” Grech said, adding that cars are now crossing the once calmer road.
He claimed that the decision to withdraw the pedestrian street was because the National Party had its finger on the pulse of Mosta residents and consultations on the issue were still needed to find an alternative solution.
