Moses Mpofu embroiled in $9 million bidding scandal again

By Municipal Reporter – HARARE – A senior Harare City Council official has been arrested for making a $9 million bid to Moses Mpofu.

Harare Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango accused the government of failing to follow due process in awarding the $9.2 million tender contract to Mpofu.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) issued a statement on Wednesday confirming Chisango’s arrest.

Chisango was accused of not following due process in awarding a multi-million dollar tender to Juluka Enndo Joint Venture, owned by businessman Moses Mpofu. ZACC said:

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested Harare City Council (HCC) Town Secretary, Engineer Hosiah Chisango, on charges of abuse of office.

Engineer Chisango was alleged to have colluded with four other officials who have been detained to award the streetlight tender worth over $9.2 million to Juluka Enndo Joint Venture, a company owned by businessman Moses Mpofu, without following due process.

Chisango is expected to appear in court on corruption charges on Thursday.

Mpofu and Mike Chimombe, both linked to the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front, are currently serving jail terms after being arrested for allegedly misappropriating funds disbursed by the government through a tender for the supply of goats.

The duo was allegedly awarded a multi-million dollar tender for the supply of goats under the Presidential Goat Transfer Scheme.

However, instead of honoring the agreement, they allegedly used the funds for personal gain, buying luxury cars and houses.
