‘Abella is allergic to the truth’: Bernard Grech

Bernard Grech, speaking to supporters in front of the Birkirkara church, criticised the prime minister for being “allergic to the truth” because he was creating his own problems.

“Robert Abela cannot solve the problems he created … He makes his problems your problems,” Grech said.

“(Abella) is allergic to the truth.”

Grech told his audience on Sunday that a quick glance at the Premier League’s slogans would reveal their hypocrisy.

Maltese healthDo you know where all that power went? It went to the corrupt groups around you (Abela), and you are still protecting them.”

Joseph Muscat was charged in court on Tuesday along with Keith Schembri, Konrad Mizzi and several others for their involvement in the fraudulent hospital deal following a magistrates’ court investigation.

Former deputy prime minister Chris Fearne and former finance minister Edward Scicluna were also charged on Wednesday.

Since the hospital inquiry, Abela has criticised the “establishment” for engaging in political terrorism rather than responding to the allegations facing his Labour colleagues.

“They stole money from patients and the Maltese people, and we paid the price and suffered for it,” Grech said.

“There is only one thing that scares them the most: the vote this Saturday,” he continued, referring to the upcoming elections for local councils and the European Parliament.

“Robert Abela wants you to vote for candidates who undermine European values before the vote even begins,” Grech said, claiming that the Labour Party candidate had turned his back on justice by showing his support for Muscat.

Meanwhile, the National Party puts forward candidates who represent the entire population, and one of its candidates, Roberta Metsola, has already proved her worth as President of the European Parliament.

Responding to Labor’s recent claim that the Nationals’ only election plan was a vitals survey, Grech said Labor was just trying to hold on to power and continue to steal from the country.

The investigation, published by Malta Today, delved into a fraudulent agreement for three public hospitals awarded to Vitals Global Healthcare in 2015. The investigation found that millions of public funds entrusted to the company were diverted to other companies linked to it.

Grech added that the party’s issues were the environment and a successful and equal economy, while the party believed Gozo could be developed into a greater tourist destination.

Grech stressed that the fraudulent relationship between the government and Vitals (and ultimately Steward) was not an allegation but a fact, as emails showed the collusion.

Now, the country is at a crossroads created by the government itself, and Grech called on the country to respond to the call for change.

“Be proud to be Maltese and Gozo. Keep believing in this country… and vote for the changes you want to see.”
